I've just got home from the first part of my split shift. Today was busy again. We seem to be picking up a few big tables recently. Filling the pub quite nicely.
But this morning I had a few calls from suppliers, informing me about price increases. Dairy, I knew was going up, but I was not expecting Rapeseed oil to rise like it has. Around 20%!!
The chap on the end of the phone explained that it's gone up since the recent Pound/Sterling failings...and Brexit.
It's now getting to the stage where I am having to adjust the prices on the menus. Is this going to drive our customers away?
Fewer customers would be a massive worry and I know that Brexiters will say "It's only short term, don't worry!" Well short term is how long? One year? Six months? How well will your business survive with fewer customers over the next 6 months?
Just a heads up chefs. Check your prices. Go through your invoices. Some suppliers are more honest than others. Some will let you know of the increases. There are plenty which will not.
Some may know me, most wont. I am Brian a chef from the east of England. Head chef of a pub and owner of a small catering business. I've been a chef for 25 years. I do this web stuff purely for fun. It's literally just me and my laptop. No big corporation. Just a chef, wanting to connect with other chefs. Enjoy.
